Today the City of Cincinnati announced the proposed Center of Care initiative, which outlines a collaborative effort between the City, Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC), and service providers to expand access to essential services for individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability. This announcement also detailed that 3CDC has entered into an agreement to acquire three properties associated with St. Francis Seraph Ministries in Over-the-Rhine, which includes the space currently leased by Mary Magdalen House.
The work MMH has carried out in OTR since 1988 – which includes providing showers, laundry, hygiene supplies, resource connection, and more – will continue at our current location as plans for the Center of Care develop. Additionally, there will be no lapse in services during the transition period.
We appreciate that this announcement reflects a broader effort to strengthen coordination and collaboration among agencies who serve individuals experiencing homelessness. With nearly four decades of expertise we know that access to hygiene resources, along with other basic care, opens the door to improved health, renewed confidence, employment, housing, and more. We support efforts that seek to improve accessibility and reduce barriers for those experiencing homelessness in Cincinnati.
Mary Magdalen House is grateful to be included among the nonprofit partners who are engaged in ongoing discussions and planning for this proposed initiative. We are actively participating in these conversations to ensure future decisions reflect the needs of the people we serve and strengthen their ability to engage with the services they need.
We will communicate with our supporters—including guests, volunteers, donors, and partners—as more information becomes available. Many aspects such as our future location and the timeline of this project remain under development, but one thing is certain: our priority is, and always will be, supporting people experiencing homelessness through accessible, welcoming hygiene services that promote dignity, wellbeing, stability, and opportunity.
